Whenever new technology is introduced into existing teaching practice, it’s valid to ask if it has made an impact. This section of the Toolkit provides a variety of resources to assist you in evaluating the impact of a blended learning initiative in your class or on your campus.
Core elements of the blended learning model being advocated here are the strategic application of technology-based assessment and flexibility/access. This model strategically applies technology to create an instructional environment that supports deeper student comprehension, critical thinking, and complex problem solving. Assessment is key in how students engage with courses and at what level they integrate learning into wider contexts. This model integrates deeper learning assessment as an inherent instructional design component. The process encourages student reflection and marks a shift from pure cognitive recall to more authentic student creation, collaboration, production, and presentation using interactive technologies.
